Mahoma Uganda
Small Hydro Plant
A Water to Wire Project by ECLE, this mini hydro power generation project adds 2.7 MW of power to the local grid in Mahoma, Uganda. Since its commissioning in 2018, ECLE continues to operate and maintain the plant.
Our work began with the financial and technical feasibility of proposed project, following which we carried out the entire design – of the civil engineering, hydromechanical and electro mechanical work.
Environment and Social Impact Assessments including ESIA, RAP and ESAP were then carried out by ECLE . This stage was followed by arranging of financing for the project with ECLE obtaining a 64% equity stake and facilitating senior debt for the balance.
ECLE then carried out procurement, supply, installation, and commissioning of the electromechanical package and two Francis Hydro Turbine units of a leading European brand. We now commercially operate and maintain the plant, which has been supplying to the Kyambura grid since 2019.
